Good magazine needs collaborators to help compile a list and map of all the community gardens in New Zealand. We've just started it, so we need lots of help! If you know of a community garden that isn't listed, please leave a comment at the link below with its name, address (incl region) and website (if it has one).

Is Sustainable Education at a tipping point in the New Zealand Tertiary Sector?

I just want to share this article written by our Sustainability Director, Dr. Barry Law.

He says:

Tertiary education institutions have traditional organised learning through disciplinary models of teaching and learning making it difficult to implement interdisciplinary learning around complex social issues like sustainability. Despite this limitation there is an emerging focus on content related to sustainability in both the Polytechnic and University… Continue

Chocolate Flavoured People Power

Today’s U-turn by choc industry giant coupled with the latest youtube viral video has given me the last smidgeon of evidence that I need to back my personal belief that Human Beings Can Do Anything They Put Their Minds To.

In less than a fortnight, tens of thousands of people outraged over the… Continue

On two occasions instead of an apple, it has had a picture of our planet, flashing for about 30 seconds.

The first time it happened a month or so ago, I had to do a double-take to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I looked around and there… Continue

Transformation through Story Telling

While on a rational level, most people agree that a fundamental shift in society and culture is necessary to tackle the problems of today, it seems very hard to make that leap on a personal level, leave alone a community or institutional level.

I was reminded of that when I watched the speech that UK prime minister Gordon Brown recently gave at the TED conference. He states… Continue

Time travel and climate change

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” - Henry Miller

I got a big wake up call when I started looking more closely at my personal impacts on the climate recently. About 80 percent of my emissions last year (from home and travel) were from flying. This truly is an inconvenient truth. Here’s a look at my… Continue
