Sustainability 2.0

I've just found the book Sustainability 2.0 - see http://sustainabilitythebook.com/

It's great reading as an overview of the links between sustainability, the internet, business and shifts in the way we socialise and create communities. if you're a designer, researcher or marketer, it gives a great overview of the whole. And if you're a relative newbie to sustainability, it gives a fabulous feel for the recent history of sustainability. And if you're like me, you also just enjoy… Continue

An Open Letter to Paul Henry

Please go to

Imagine what the world would be like today if this were the case. There of course would still be the sinners, just a different array of sins – wastefulness, polluting, consumerism... Some of the classic sins would… Continue

On still asking 'what's sustainability?'

I'm interested in sharing ideas about design and research in particular, as well as 'strategic' aspects of sustainability.

My experience of sustainability is that it's emergent - and will be for a long time yet, as it's still a conversation without universally shared assumptions or truths - where we start by checking what we mean by 'sustainability' in a given context.

So I think the basic question 'what's sustainable?' is still very useful for understanding both what it… Continue

Fallacies in Ecological Communication - Appeal to Authority

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is omnipresent. There is barely any scientific article, political report or university-presentation about climate change without referring to the IPCC. In most of these cases the data or arguments of the organization are not questioned as the IPCC is regarded as an authority in the field… Continue
