Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a writer, film maker, investor and artist. I'm a proponent of solutions for the new period we're entering; where values and value have a segue; where business ethics isn't an oxymoron.

Until May I was driving communications at the Sustainable Business Network where I've seen a surge in business awareness of our human peril.

Now I'm developing an investment fund called Wellspring that will provide financial energy for businesses to take more radical steps toward values-driven work and projects.

I'm always keen to see more art engaging with these future-based issues in NZ! See below for the link to The Water Show in Chch for an excellent example -

I have a very loving husband and two great youngsters, one (aged 4) who makes me laugh so hard I fall off my chair. The other (6) is designing a plane which sucks in CO2 and expels oxygen.

ps: about the photo. It's my great grandparents near Paekakariki. Just over 100 years ago. Looks like a nice pace to get about at, doesn't it?

Hi Sophie,

Kia Ora Sophie,

Thanks for alerting me to the Dark Ecologies session  on 25th .  I really love seeing such an artistic approach.  Unfortunately, I will be down in Whirinaki  working with kids at the school there next week on an exciting program which is also about sensing.   Its about their Kura helping the world better understand the value of the ecosystem services that rainforests  supply to support life on earth.   (eg their largely ignored climate global cooling  function). Using Living Systems Thinking  to learn how to sense and ride the pattterns in a complex world - full of ambiguity and surprise.   details at www.whirinakirainforest.info/weather/explanation.htm

Also while have your ear, if you know anyone interested in joining  the Living Systems Thinking workshop  on 30-312 May please point them to www.projectmanagement.co.nz   We run these as a small  co-creative group at the end of almost every month.

Go hard

Hi Sophie,

Your photos on Cultivating Conciousness peaked my interest, and your profile further so. It sounds like you can see the big picture, where we're headed, and you don't necessarily like what you see either, but are willing to try to make a change.

I've recently hopped on board with the 350 Aotearoa team, and thought your art was pretty inspiring + would be great if you would be able to do something for our 10/10/10 Global Climate Working Bee (www.350.org.nz for more details). I was thinking an art piece centering around 350, or an art workshop for the community, or something similar would be wonderful (not to mention if it could be filmed/photographed).

Would love to speak further if that interests you at all?

Regards,

Sam

Hi Sophie, Your projects sound very inspiring!
Perhaps you have a vision to contribute to the shiftshaping project, or perhaps your little youngsters might want to visualise their positive futures? Sounds like you already have inventor in the house.

Hi Sophie. Your name has come up twice in the last couple of days so I thought I'd get in touch to communicate with you about a few ideas.
One is Letting Space, and the other is Now Future.

Letting space is a concept that I am very excited about, I will probably submit a proposal or two. But I would also like to discuss a project I am working on to facilitate the utilisation of unwanted commercial resources in Wellington, this project could benefit from vacant commercial space to host unwanted commercial materials. Kirsten Kelly from WCC said you would be a good person to talk to about building relationships with property developers etc.

Now Future also looks great. I was wandering what kind of multi and social media integration you had planned for it? I am very interested in the utilisation of these technologies to benefit such projects. I would be willing and keen to talk and assist you in any way if you are at all interested in such development.

Cool,

Cheers,

Best regards.

Harry.

Surprise!

You’re invited to our last Intersect Face-to-Face of 2009. There will be sharing of ideas and the usual inspiration and connection, but this one is a little bit Christmas flavoured and it’s all about giving.

There will be surprise gifts, crafty activities, ideas for 'sustainable' gifts and conversations about giving. You can get involved in any way that suits you - even if it's just to meet a few more people and enjoy some tasty treats.

...Pssst...pass it on!
Why not surprise someone from the Wellington Intersectors and post this invite on their profile?

Cheers!
