Well for 21 years of my life, I haven't stepped foot out of the United States. Of course this was not by choice. I finally got the great opportunity to do so. Wellington is where i ended up. I will be working in Wellington for the next 3 months with the Sustainability Trust and Intersect as an extra set of helping hands.
I got over to Wellington from Virginia on October 1st, so needless to say, I am still getting used to Wellington and generally being in a different country. I am open to do as many things as I can while I am over here. So PLEASE contact me if there is something interesting going on or if you can think of something that someone from overseas NEEDS to do before they leave New Zealand. Especially good tramping sites. I have all the basic equipment, but no one to go with... aww, feel sorry for me..
Beyond cleaning up the Earth and tramping, my days are consumed with cycling(road mostly), volleyball (yes men play volleyball too), spending countless hours on the internet and in magazines to read up on the latest music news and releases (while spending too much money in the process), enjoying a nice dark beer (or 7), and tossing the disc.
Areas of interest and capabilities:
Well most of my interest in earthly activities came when I joined up with my friends in the Alliance for Planet Earth at college. It opened my eyes and really shifted my perspectives.
We try to reach the rest of the college students, and non-college people as well, in as many different ways as we can. We focus a lot on general recycling and changing non-recyclers mindsets, but we also work with waste management, sustainable transportation, promoting local produce, and so much more.
I would say my areas of interest are in sustainable transportation, alternative energy (which I know the least about, but am desperately wanting to learn more), promoting public interest in the environment, and getting Bush out and a Democrat in office so that we can finally have some glimpse of a chance to make the US a more sustainable country.
Areas of expertise? hmm. I do well dressing up in funny clothes to hold pickets/signs, thinking up cheesy slogans or chants, brainstorming, mindless grunt work, I have a good radio voice, and making most any basic bicycle repairs and a few serious ones..
Hi Seth, they might not arrive by then, and I'm away Friday. You might need to leave me an address I can send it to - and your size preference. Cheers, Chris.
Hey Seth, here's a message that just came through the email list for ultimate players:
Hi everyone - Pick-up is ON this Sunday
Although lots of Wellington players will be in Taupo this weekend, there will almost certainly be those some who are not.
The crew players will be training at Martin Luckie from about 12:30pm on Sunday and will be looking to kick start pick up from 2pm as usual. So if you are in Wellington come along.
Jaws
PS If you want to participate in our training I would welcome anyone who wants to come. The more the merrier.
mostly the kind that was made before you were born! thanks for the mail and congratulations to you and all your fellow Americans on your new president. Fabulous news.
Hi Seth, thanks for your message! I noticed you like to play disc... are you playing ultimate while you're here? If you're keen but not sorted yet, let me know if you'd like to play in the summer league and also visit this website if you haven't seen it already: http://wellington.nzfda.org.nz/index.shtml
Have you received plenty of advice about tramping already? If you're still wanting ideas and/or companions let me know :)
