Comment by Caren on May 10, 2011 at 8:26 Hi everyone, I just heard about this project: towards an informed and inspiring vision for Christchurch's Central City following the quakes.
"Have a look at the Share an Idea website and let Christchurch City Council know your ideas on how to make Christchurch a great place to live, work and play. All ideas
will be put forward for consideration in the draft Central City Plan."
Send the link on to your family, friends and colleagues - http://www.shareanidea.org.nz/

Comment by Lauren Christie on May 9, 2011 at 16:56 Winter Lights 2011 - A NERI Thought Leadership Forum
Winter Lights 2011 will consider New Zealand’s longer-term energy future with an emphasis on the role of fossil fuels in transitioning the country to a more sustainable, low carbon economy. This is the first in a series of Thought Leadership Forums being planned and run by the National Energy Research Institute (NERI).
WHERE: The Otago Museum, 419 Great King Street, Dunedin.
WHEN: Thursday 16th June 2011, 8:30am - 7:00pm.
We will hear from New Zealanders leading the broader energy sector and discuss both the opportunities and the trade-offs involved in moving to an energy future with less dependence on traditional fuels.
Some of you may be eligible for the heavily discounted NGO/Student price, but all of you should get in quick as early bird registrations close next Friday the 20th of May!

A new website set up by the Chch city council:

Hey Christchurch! We’re gathering everybody’s ideas so we can create an informed and inspiring vision for the Central City following the quakes. This is just the beginning of the conversation – over the next couple months we’ll be asking plenty of questions about a range of topics.
Comment by Steven Kung on May 7, 2011 at 20:40 Free adobe building workshop & seminar - Sun 8 May & Tue 10 May - Christchurch
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=204728066211255
Please forward this to other people in your networks too.
It's planned to be on this Sunday daytime (hands-on workshop), and Tuesday evening (seminar with a slideshow). (Sunday 8 May, Tuesday 10 May.)
Feel free to inform others about this, esp those who may want to rebuild (temporarily or permanently) with this technique.
And please inform me or post on the Wall of the Facebook page (the link is above) if you can help with providing the necessary materials (clay, sand, newspapers, cement, drill bit for mixing paint & a drill, buckets, sturdy 20L paint buckets).
He (Philip) is putting it on free for us here in Chchch, so we need to provide the materials for the workshop, if we want it to be a practical workshop.
Bring gloves, gumboots, and notebooks.
Bring lunch, and afternoon tea; food to share with everyone (potluck style) is good.
Is on rain or shine; it's likely to be shining tomorrow; we have an indoor area that we can use if it's wet or cold outside.
This is a great opportunity for us to learn about thissimple and effective building technique. Very opportune for us here in Christchurch now.
WINTER GATHERING 2011
CREATING AND EXPLORING COMMUNITY
Join us for a 3 day workshop for young change-makers to explore ideas of social change in community. A peer led event looking at local and global ideas of collaborative-community through workshops, art, talks and practical work.
A MOVEMENT OF YOUNG CHANGE MAKERS
SEEDS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE
The movement for young change makers, within New Zealand and around the world, is very diverse and ever growing. Networks focus on "what is", and "what needs to be": in relation to external issues like environmental changes, peek oil, economics systems, educational systems, politics etc, and possible solutions around sustainability, innovation, collaboration and possible new forms. There are numerous networks that we are involved with, initiatives, projects, forums and NGO's. Also individuals have their own inner focus, and questions around leadership, creativity, inner work and direction.

Date - 9- 12th June 2011
Location - Parau Bay, Banks Peninsula. A 30 minute drive around the bays from Lyttelton or 20 mins by boat, with a pick up. It is on land co-owned by 4 families, with organic gardens, houses, caravans and a yurt. Used as a meeting place, it is a wonderful spot for our temporary intentional community.
Price - $85 - We are keeping this as cheep as we can, to make it possible for young people and students to attend. For those flying into Christchurch, there may be extra money available to cover part of these flights.
Food - The catering will be done by us as a group, and will be vegetarian. Organic, delicious, home-made food, created and eaten together. It will be sourced locally where possible, from Christchurch health-food shops and Canterbury farms.
This is a drug and alcohol free event.
Organizers - Every year, 'Gatherings' are organized by a group of motivated volunteers. Each year the search starts anew to listen in to what the most relevant themes and question are. This thread is then followed intuitively as individuals embark upon their work together, motivated by their passion to inspire, to awaken and to challenge others.
