Hello all, just wondered if anyone here had any experience constructing their own batteries? I've been reading up on the technology and it seems that its quite possible to construct your own Plante batteries. The process is described on Wikipedia. Whilst I'm also interested in renewable generation it seems useless to start building my own generators without a practical storage facility and deep cycle batteries seem to be the only part of a renewable generation system for which there doesn't seem to be a large community of DIYers.

Seeing as batteries are one of the most expensive and critical components of the system I'm very keen to look at the practicalities of building my own. So far I'm thinking that each cell will comprise a plastic Klip-It container, a single rolled-up foil electrode pair with wire terminals connecting through the lid and the obligatory 35% sulphuric acid. Simples!

Have come across a fantastic resources. This old book:

Storage batteries simplified, operating principles--care and industrial applications; a complete, non-technical but authoritive treatise discussing the development of the modern storage battery (1917)
