Hey everyone. Aucklanders - please do this survey:
The Council is considering (among other things) starting an organic waste collection which would reduce Auckland's greenhouse gas emissions from landfill.
The survey takes about 15min and at the end you can express interest in being part of a focus group to discuss your views further.To participate, register online at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/peoplespanel or by email Liz at peoplespanel@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
Comment by Sam Rye on May 16, 2011 at 20:22 Great talk by James Hansen tonight in Wellington.
Inspirational stuff, and some great plans for a transition to a low carbon economy in the coming 20 years. Main messages for me;
1) Keep coal in the ground, and any other alternative fossil fuels (such as tar sands)
2) Introduce a carbon price - not an emissions trading scheme - and this will force a 'true price' realisation in the market, and bring on the proliferation of low-carbon fuels & energies.
3) Join 350 in their movement to bring people together around solutions, and to call for our Government to be held accountable for their actions (or inactions) when it comes to climate changing activities. NZ stands on the precipice of disastrous coal mining activities being authorised by the national government - we MUST oppose this: Coal Action Network are leading the charge in Aotearoa.
Can't wait for moving planet, and big shouts to the 350 Aotearoa core crew and the amazing peeps who joined them in a weekend workshop with James Hansen attending.
Onwards to Moving Planet my friends!
We are pretty excited - James Hansen, the NASA scientist, world leading climate scientist and man behind the science of 350 (why we exist!) is coming to tour NZ in May.
Check out the schedule of public talks here and join the special James Hansen NZ tour facebook group to keep up-to-date. If you can't make any of those, he'll be on RadioNZ on Sat 14th May on Mornings with Kim Hill.
