Purposeful Young Professionals
I'm part of a group setting up a Time Bank in the Wellington South area.
A Time Bank is a skill-swapping network that uses time, not money, as the measurement tool (if you're familiar with Green Dollars it's kind of similar). ie. I do an hour of gardening for you, I gain one time credit, with which I can 'buy' someone else's service...
As well as providing a forum to meet people's practical needs, it adds real wealth to a community by fostering relationships and strengthening connections between members in a community.
It's a great community development tool that has proved really successful in Lyttleton (and we hear, has been especially helpful in the earthquake response), so it's really exciting to be piloting it here in Wellington!
The time bank is going to be based in Newtown, and will hopefully be kicking off in May.
We need lots of supportive and enthusiastic members to get the ball rolling!
Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to be a part of it, I'll keep you updated as more info comes in.
Hi Anna, I'm interested in joining the time bank :) Are you going to have another workshop soon?
We're having the launch of the Time Bank this month! There will be the opportunity to sign up and meet fellow Time Bankers...(plus good music and food!)
It's on Sat October 29 at 1PM, at the Island Bay Community Centre.
Come join us!
Sounds great Anna, I'll be there... shall I put a notice in the Island Bay School newsletter about it...?
Hi there Anna,
how are things going with the Time Bank? I'm part of HANDS here in Golden Bay, which is a very successful and flourishing complementary currency. It's awesome. It's a great way to organise community and serves to connect us. I run www.happyzine.co.nz - if you'd ever like to write a one off blog about your progress for our green, good news site - drop me a line: firstname.lastname@example.org
